Ford 7610

FORD 7610

A Ford 7610, 1984, two wheel drive tractor makes the basis for a restoration project in August 2010.

At 97hp, with a ford 4 cylinder engine, these tractors are highly sought after due to their versitile abilities on a small scale. Their simplicity and affordability make them popular and well worth restoring for work or pleasure.

This particular machine is used on a small holding in Northumberland where it has a mixed bag of duties ranging from the requirements of the small equestrian unit to processing firewood.

MECHANICAL
We thought that the major mechanical repair was to be the replacement of the clutch. When we split the tractor to do this we found that the gearbox input seals were missing.

The transmission was removed and the seals replaced along with overhauling the dual power.

The clutch was replaced as orignally required with a new unit.

Other mechanical jobs included the removal and service of the fuel injectors and a throrough engine servcice.

An amount of electrical re-wiring was also done, which is standard for a tractor of this age.

COSMETIC OVERHAUL
The tractor when it arrived at the yard appeared to be in quite good condition. when the cab glass and the cab interior was removed we uncovered a different story. There was corrosion that had badly set in throughout the cab. someone at some point previously, had maded an attempt of repair but corrosion itself had not been sufficiently dealt with and filled over the top.

The very deteriorated tinwork was cut out in its entirity and new tin shaped and welded to pattern.

The less evasive rust was removed and chemically treated before the general prep work for the paint job.

The rest of the corrosion was dealt with and the panels both inside and outside the tractor where prepped ready for paint.

After the preparation work had been completed , the tractor was primed and painted inside and out.
The interior was re-trimmed and we think you we agree the result is sensational.
